Massachusetts’ average gas price is $3.09, up 1 cent from last week

The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gas edged up another penny this week, to $3.09, according to AAA Northeast.

This week’s average is 5 cents higher than a month ago and 95 cents higher than on this date a year ago.

Massachusetts’ average gas price is 8 cents lower than the national average.

“Timing is everything, and while supplies have tightened due to the slow recovery after Hurricane Ida, this is also the point when gas demand starts its seasonal decline,” said Mary Maguire, AAA Northeast’s director of public affairs, in a statement. “While there may be some price fluctuation, we expect most motorists to see stability at the pump.”

The cheapest price for a gallon of unleaded gas in MetroWest is $2.89 at a Mobil station on Belmont Street (Rte. 9) in Northborough, according to gasbuddy.com.

AAA Northeast is a nonprofit auto club with 71 offices in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Jersey, New Hampshire and New York, providing more than 6 million local AAA members with travel, insurance, finance, and auto-related services.
