A U.S. federal court has sentenced a Canadian man to 11 years in prison for laundering money for North Korean hackers and in other criminal schemes, the Department of Justice (DOJ) announced this week.

The U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Georgia sentenced Ghaleb Alaumary, 36, of Mississauga, Ontario to 140 months in federal prison, according to a DOJ statement. Alaumary, a dual Canadian and U.S. citizen, pled guilty earlier this year to two counts of laundering conspiracy, including for laundering funds that North Korean hackers stole in an online banking theft.
