Kalki Koechlin may not be a gym person but taking care of her mind and body is of utmost importance to her. “Work out, eat healthy, learn new things, spend time looking after your body and mind. It will make you beautiful,” she shared in an interview with Vogue India. Her regime serves as an inspiration to all—from amateurs to professionals. You won’t see her getting into high intensity workouts or using heavy equipment. Instead, it is a mix of jogging, yoga and surfing. Here are a few lessons you can learn from her.
1) Always stay hydrated
Staying hydrated has always been key to a healthy lifestyle but especially crucial if you are going to workout. For Koechlin, good hydration means getting the right amount of water before, during and after exercise. During workouts you sweat and that leads to loss of water as well as other salts and nutrients, thus, leading to dehydration. Studies have also shown that getting enough fluid regulates your body temperature and also boosts skin health.
2) Practice yoga to achieve a peaceful mind and healthy body
The actor has been very vocal about her love for yoga. If you were to scout her Instagram and follow her yoga journey, you can catch a glimpse of her routines that go right back to her pre-pregnancy days. She recently shared a picture on her Instagram of her postpartum fitness where she can be seen doing Ustrasana (the camel pose) and was happy to go back to her first love, yoga. “Still sore and stiff but getting back to it slowly,”she shared in her caption.
3) Turn your hobby into a workout
Koechlin picked up surfing 2-3 years ago and finds herself calmest when she is amongst the waves. She recently confessed on Instagram with a picture of her surfing and how she was more than ecstatic to get back on the surfboard. So, for days when she wants to make her workouts more fun, you can find her playing with the waves. Studies have also shown that playing any sport gives you the same benefits of a run or a jog.
4) Consistency is key
You will never find the actor with a gym membership, but you will also never see her missing her yoga sessions. On days, she wants to keep her body more active, she will resort to a jog or some playtime in the pool. “I jog a different route every day and I’m obsessed with swimming,” she shared in an interview with Vogue India. For Koechlin, consistency is important as it helps you feel relieved both physically and mentally.
5) Keep your body active even when pregnant
Mom to an adorable little baby girl, Koechlin ensured she stayed active throughout both her pregnancies and all three trimesters. Prenatal yoga not only helps with decreasing lower back pain and nausea but also helps with reducing stress and anxiety. Studies have also shown that it helps increase the strength, flexibility and endurance of the muscles needed for childbirth.
