Sergeant John Kelleher outlined the background allegations beforehand: “Garda Bryan Murphy and Garda Brian McCabe responded to a name in relation to a welfare verify and attended the defendant’s tackle.

“Gardaí inspected the home and located the dwelling situations had been of poor high quality. [They were informed that the defendant] had boobytrapped doorways of the home by hooking up the mains energy to the door handles.

“Later, a search was carried out by each gardaí and the ESB. The home was made protected by members of the ESB. They found that the mains electrical energy had been hooked as much as three inside door handles.

“There was 230 volts of electrical energy working by way of the door handles. This was sufficient electrical energy to trigger demise or critical damage. All energy was disconnected from the tackle,” Sgt Kelleher mentioned.

Frank Buttimer, solicitor, instructed following this define of allegations: “It won’t be as critical as at first look.”
