SEREMBAN: Two men have been fined RM3,500 each in default eight months’ jail by a Magistrate’s Court here for putting up posters and distributing pamphlets on behalf of an unlicensed moneylender.

Woon Wan Pau, 42, and Tan Hai Liang, 37, pleaded guilty to the offence before magistrate Mahyun Yusof on Monday (Sept 13).

They were jointly charged with committing the offence at 3.30pm on Sept 7 at Bandar Sri Sendayan.

They were charged under Section 29AA of the Moneylenders Act 1951 read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code.

Offenders can be jailed up to two years or fined not more than RM20,000, or both, upon conviction.

DPP Hafizah Zainul Hashimi prosecuted while Woon and Tan were unrepresented.

Both men paid the fine.
