Gov. DeSantis has proposed giving Floridians a 25-cent fuel tax vacation for five months starting July 1. This can be a waste of cash. The fee shall be $1.1 billion – cash that may be higher spent for different wants.

The cash for use will come from federal stimulus funds, meant to switch the state fuel taxes that will have been paid in the course of the second half of the 12 months. So the governor says that it will not use Florida tax {dollars}. That is baloney.

Shifting cash from one pocket to a different does not change the truth that that is our cash. There are numerous issues that may very well be addressed as a substitute. This cash needs to be used as an funding in our future, not for a short lived tax break that shall be forgotten by New Yr’s Day.

One billion {dollars} is some huge cash. It might repair many roads and bridges, assist home our vets, feed a whole lot of manatees. As an alternative the governor desires to cross a feel-good legislation that may solely present solely short-term reduction. By Christmas the cash shall be gone.

It’s no coincidence that this cash will turn out to be accessible simply as DeSantis is standing for re-election in November.

This short-sighted proposal is a nasty thought and needs to be voted down.
