NEW LENOX, IL — Those looking to get a jump start — or a very belated start — on their New Year’s resolution to get fit will soon have help from one of the nation’s largest chain fitness centers: Planet Fitness.

The Village of New Lenox announced via a news release Friday the move to bring Planet Fitness by the end of 2021 to the vacant FIM store space at 700 W. Lincoln Highway. The space is 28,474 square feet, according to the Village, giving those wanting to get fit plenty of room and options to do so.

“We’re excited to welcome Planet Fitness to our community,” said New Lenox Mayor Tim Baldermann. “As the west side of our town continues to redevelop, it’s great to see quality businesses come here for our residents.”

Planet Fitness offers a range of cardio and strength exercise equipment, individualized training programs and a mobile app to help customers stay fit on the go, according to its website. There are more than 2,000 Planet Fitness gyms across the U.S.

The space slotted for Planet Fitness had been vacant since 2013, according to the Village. In that time, Beggar’s Pizza purchased the the plaza where the storefront sits and has made notable improvements to the plaza, including repairs and restriping to the parking lot, a new paint job for the facade of the plaza and upgrades to its internal systems, according to the Village.
