2022 marks the fiftieth anniversary of Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm’s run for the Presidency of america on the Democratic Get together’s ticket.  In 1968 she was the primary African American girl elected to the Home of Representatives, and in 1972 she was the primary girl to ever search the presidential nomination from a serious celebration.  The Congresswoman’s marketing campaign started to clear a political path for others. She noticed herself as a “catalyst for change” and her problem to the established order positively influenced Geraldine Ferraro, Hillary Clinton, President Barack Obama, and Vice President Kamala Harris. 

On the 50th anniversary of Congresswoman Chisholm’s run for the Presidency of the United Statea, SCC/ AAUW believes that some a part of Congresswoman Chisholm’s legacy will encourage every of you to persevere in making progress towards our shared targets of fairness and understanding.

Janice Harris Jackson retired Kean College educator and former State Training Chair for the New Jersey NAACP will lead this dialogue on the Chisholm Legacy.
