DEDHAM, Mass. (AP) — George Berkowitz, who based the seafood restaurant chain Authorized Seafoods, has died in a Boston suburb. He was 97. Berkowitz died on Feb. 20 at his house in Dedham. He initially based Authorized Sea Meals in 1950 as a fish market subsequent to his father’s meat market and grocery in Cambridge. Berkowitz opened the primary Authorized Sea Meals restaurant subsequent to the fish market in 1968. Through the years the eateries, which characteristic conventional New England seafood reminiscent of clam chowder, received a spread of nationwide accolades. There are at present 23 Authorized Sea Meals eating places from Massachusetts to Virginia.
