Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. has struck a revised deal with the Boy Scouts of America that increases compensation the insurer would provide victims of childhood sexual abuse, an agreement that could help the youth group ultimately emerge from bankruptcy.

Hartford said Tuesday it has agreed to pay $787 million, before tax, to resolve claims arising under insurance policies issued decades ago to the Boy Scouts and its local councils. The offer is an increase over the $650 million Hartford previously agreed to in exchange for a release of any further obligations under the policies, most of which were issued in the 1970s.
