Rural Well being Community of South Central New York presents backyard grant to colleges, serving to create and broaden faculty gardens within the Southern Tier

(WBNG) — The Rural Well being Community of South Central New York is providing the SCNY College Backyard Grant to colleges all through the Southern Tier — serving to develop and create gardens on faculty campuses.

Farm to College Coordinator Hannah Rion mentioned the backyard grant is open to early care and Okay-12 colleges within the space. She mentioned faculty districts from Broome, Chemung, Chenango, Delaware, Otsego, Tioga or Tompkins County are welcome to use.

Rion mentioned faculty gardens is not going to solely assist beautify the campus — the gardens will educate college students about agriculture and the surroundings.

“College gardens enable colleges not solely to develop meals however then to serve it to their college students as effectively,” mentioned Rion. “It is a nice alternative for college kids to actually achieve that hands-on expertise, in addition to that appreciation for agriculture and meals locally.”
