SC dismisses plea of Loop Telecom looking for refund of licence price, damages

The Supreme Court docket on Thursday dismissed a plea of Loop Telecom looking for refund of Rs 1,454 crore paid for 2G licence and likewise Rs 1,000 crore in damages for lack of popularity after its cancellation. A bench of justices D Y Chandrachud and Vikram Nath held that the corporate, which was a beneficiary of an arbitrary coverage of first-come-first-serve (FCFS) in grant of 2G spectrum licence, can’t take advantage of the trial court docket verdict acquitting the agency and its administrators in a felony case.

Loop Telecom Restricted, in its plea, had sought a route to the Division of Telecom (DoT) to refund Rs 1,454.94 crores paid by it as licence price for the grant of Unified Entry Licences (UAS) in 21 service areas.

Its 21 licences have been among the many 122 licences quashed by the Supreme Court docket in 2012 on a batch of pleas together with the one filed by NGO, Centre of Public Curiosity Litigation alleging corruption.
