ABSTRACT

Latinx adults expertise a excessive burden of dementia. On condition that modifiable elements drive dementia disparities, partaking Latinxs in Alzheimer’s illness and associated dementias (ADRD) schooling is vital to handle dementia burden amongst this ageing inhabitants. But, no research have documented the position of the COVID-19 pandemic on dementia schooling amongst Latinxs. This research: (1) elucidates the recruitment and retention processes focusing on Latinxs for on-line instructional occasions throughout the pandemic; (2) describes facilitators/obstacles to participation; and (3) provides classes discovered. We developed on-line dementia-focused workshops (English and Spanish) and employed a cold-calling method to ask Latinx individuals enrolled in medical research (N = 209). Bivariate exams assessed demographic and cognitive variations between those that recruiters did (n = 60) and didn’t (n = 149) efficiently interact. Frequency counts assessed individuals’ technological entry. Solely 8/209 attended the web occasions; all held college levels, most reported English as their major language, and none skilled cognitive impairment. Outcomes underscore how instructional attainment, cognitive impairment, language desire, and age intersect to form recruitment in dementia-focused on-line schooling. To advertise wholesome ageing and to ameliorate dementia disparities, obstacles to on-line engagement amongst older Spanish-speaking Latinxs with cognitive impairment and low instructional attainment have to be addressed.
