UT Tyler blocks TikTok from campus web networks

TYLER, Texas (KETK) — The College of Texas at Tyler blocked social media app TikTok from all campus web networks efficient Tuesday, the college introduced.

UT Tyler stated this is available in response to Gov. Greg Abbott’s latest directive that requires all state companies to take away the app from state-issued units and gear to deal with cybersecurity dangers.

“UT Tyler is taking these vital steps to get rid of dangers to data contained within the college’s community and to our crucial infrastructure,” the college stated.

The order doesn’t apply to student-run accounts which can be owned by scholar organizations, since they aren’t authorities or Texas state company accounts.

The college stated that TikTok is prohibited from being uploaded on any college machine or by way of the UT Tyler community, so scholar organizations can’t use college units or the campus community to handle their TikTok accounts.

“We are going to proceed to take steps to make sure compliance with this order and can present updates as they happen,” Ona Tolliver, Senior Vice President for Pupil Success stated in an e mail to college students.
