No. 16 Tennessee (1-0) opened its 2022 baseball season with a 9-0 win towards Georgia Southern at Lindsey Nelson Stadium Friday.

The Vols recorded 9 hits, together with 4 dwelling runs.

Tennessee third baseman Trey Lipscomb hit a two-run homer within the backside of the fourth for the sport’s first rating.

Designated hitter Seth Stephenson added a two-run dwelling run within the the fifth inning. Jorel Ortega prolonged Tennessee’s benefit to 7-0 along with his three-run  dwelling run within the sixth inning.

Christian Scott had a solo dwelling run within the seventh inning and drove in one other run with a bases-loaded stroll within the eighth inning.

The Vols had its last run on an error by Georgia Southern.

Chase Burns began and earned the win. He pitched 5 innings, surrendering two hits, one stroll and struck out 5.

Camden Sewell and Kirby Connell every pitched two innings. Sewell had two strikeouts. Connell gave up one hit and struck out one.

4,335 have been in attendance at Lindsey Nelson Stadium, setting a house opener file. The earlier file was 2,812 in 2012.
